ASSIGNMENT #2: The Blog Analysis; due MARCH 8; 15%

The purpose of the blogging assignment is to have you research a prominent blog and critique its style by writing about it in the form of a blog.

1. Select a popular blog to follow over the next 2 weeks. Here is Technorati's ranking of the 100 most popular blogs on the Internet. You don't have to choose one of these blogs, but I do not want you to write about an obscure blog (say, your best friend's). It must be a blog that is updated regularly and has a large readership.

2. Before the assignment due date, you must compose 4 blog posts of no more than 250 words each (no more than 1000 words in total).

3. In each blog post, you must respond to something posted on the blog you are following. You must link to the original blog. You must excerpt from the original blog post, but no more than 25 words. You must provide an image in support of your blog post.

4. Try to follow these blog writing tips. Writing a blog can be deceptively easy. As you assess the blog you are following, ask yourself if that blog follows these tips? As this blogger suggests,
  • Figure out your blog’s focus
  • Remember that good blog writing is compelling
  • Use correct grammar, spelling, sentence structure
  • Make your blog visually appealing
  • Be concise
Does the blog in question have a distinct voice? How would you describe it? Does the blog have unique features? Discuss them in your 4 posts.

The final product of your blog should be a 1000-word discussion of a popular blog; but in this case you are not writing a 1000-word essay. Instead, your observations should follow blogging style. Please submit the 4 blog posts to the "Assignments" section on Blackboard. Submit all 4 blogs together. You may compose these blog posts in Word, but please give consideration to the visual appeal and appropriateness of your blog design.

I will discuss the conventions of blog writing on this course blog over the next two weeks.

Please note: I have extended the due date of this assignment to March 8, not March 1.
