Reflections: Social media hollered to the world in 2011

From the Calgary Herald:

From the Egyptian and Libyan uprisings, to the economic crises befalling the United States and the European Union, to the devastating tsunami that rocked Japan, to the Occupy movement that swept the world. In my opinion, these events continue to make consumers and business wary of what's to come. However, they have also pushed the individual voice beyond its limits and have catapulted citizens to demand more of their governments: transparency, information, and change.

The rise of social media has revealed to the world that there is strength in numbers, and the collective voice of the masses can change things for the better.

Here are some of the significant events that has solidified the presence of social media in 2011.
